Agronomic Practices

Planting Density

Prior to planting, holes are made large enough to accommodate the soil bags that the plants have been propagated in. The holes are generally spaced 1.8m x 1.8m (or closer for high density planting).

Prior to transplanting plants should be thoroughly watered, upon transplanting care should be taken not to disturb the soil around the plant roots and the stems should not be bent or broken.

It is also recommended that organic matter/manure should be mixed with top soil (1:1) and placed below and around the transplanted plant. In the absence of organic matter a fertilizer with high Phosphorus content for example 12:24:12 could be applied into the hole before transplanting at a rate of 100g per plant.
