All Things Cocoa: World Cocoa and Chocolate Day 2013 - Sponsored by the Ministry of Food Production, Trinidad and Tobago and CARIRI

World Cocoa and Chocolate Day 2013

World Cocoa and Chocolate Day 2013 will be celebrated with an ‘open-to-public’ all day event involving all the cocoa stakeholders and well wishers. Hosted by the Cocoa Research Centre, and sponsored in part by the Ministry of Food Production and CARIRI, this third annual celebration of a global festival of cocoa and chocolate seeks to excite the minds of the population as to the opportunities that are as yet untapped in the local marketplace for cocoa and chocolate.

‘World Cocoa and Chocolate Day’ is on 1 October, 2013 and will be celebrated on that day at the JFK Auditorium situated within the premises of The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus. CRC invites anyone wishing to exhibit at this event to confirm their participation and request exhibition space by filling out the online Exhibitor Registration form.

The overall objective of the event is to raise the public profile of cocoa by highlighting the long history of cocoa in Trinidad and Tobago and its contribution to the world; the unique place that Trinidad and Tobago cocoa occupies, to outline the role that cocoa can play in the economic diversification efforts of this country and to garner support towards creating a new cocoa industry based on the pillars of sustainability and value creation.

This event will feature:

  • A chocolate food fest featuring the best of the chocolate-based cuisines and confectioneries; and a competition fostering innovations in incorporating cocoa/chocolate into food: "Innovations in Chocolate Cuisine: A Food and Beverage Challenge" sponsored by CARIRI.
  • Cacao Dreams: Chocolate Haven. An exhibition highlighting the cocoa story, the challenges and threats, the creative efforts of local entrepreneurs and researchers, what the future should look like and information on best practices and technologies on offer.
  • Tours to the genebank, opportunities to sign up to learn chocolate making or learning to become a chocolate flavor ‘connoisseur’; children's games and lots of other fun activities - some special activities will be courtesy of NIHERST who have kindly agreed to allow us the use of their Jeopardy game.
  • Opportunities to win beautiful hand-crafted artwork by local artists, the trivia grand prize and other prizes for the various games.

CRC invites members of the public to celebrate this momentous occasion with us.

World Cocoa and Chocolate Day 2013’ will begin with an opening ceremony at 9:00am followed by the public exhibition at 9:30am.
