Junior Bhola
Overview
Junior is a laboratory assistant at CRC. He started in 2000 as a field assistant working in the Witches’ Broom section; helping with field observations, symptom evaluation and propagation while completing an electronics diploma course (EEET) at the John S. Donaldson Technical Institute. In 2004, he assumed duties as a laboratory assistant in the Morphology section when a position opened up.
He currently assists with the collection of cocoa samples for descriptors (fruit and flower), and for the Cacao Clones Manual (fruit; mature ripe and mature unripe).
Also assists with the characterisation of cocoa flowers, fruit and flush leaves.Areas of expertise, interest/specialties
Influential in grafting; favours the use of the side grafting technique.
Instrumental in the use of red sand (2006-2007) to remove mucilage from cocoa beans.
Oversees electronic equipment in the lab and also does electrical repairs or modifications where necessary.
